Using Smartesting Test Designer for MBT and Testlink as publisher

I want to produce a Test repository for a web application using the MBT method. I found n a book about Test industrialization that there is 3 basic steps for that :

1- modelling the SUT (system under test) 2- generate tests 3- publish tests

-I did not find lots of materials about that, for the first step especially. I would like more information, links or tutorials and especially tools (open source, since i am workin n an academic project). -second step they do refer n the book to Smartesting CertifyIt(but it is a commercial solution). -is testlink (open source test management tool ) only used to publish test cases and run them or could it be used to manual tests ?

-Last but not least, I did not find tutorial about using Testlink and another MBT tool together. I hope you can direct me.
