Advantages of using Protractor over Selenium

I need to decide between using Protractor or Selenium-Python for end-to-end testing a new Angular project.

What are the main advantages of using Protractor over Selenium-Python? What does Protractor add to Selenium?

"Protractor supports Angular-specific locator strategies, which allows you to test Angular-specific elements without any setup effort on your part." - how difficult would this be without using Protractor?
