For web automation testing should I learn VB.NET or C#

I used to be a (pretty good) old-school, slightly hacky, ASP Classic/VBScript web developer that got into manual testing for a large corporate. I'll hold my hand up and say I never was a hardcore programmer, who understood object orientation and encapsulation etc - just a 'get the job done' make it work kind of guy :)

I'm going to have to start to use automated testing and using VBScript the only language I know for automation is not really going to cut it. Sadly Selenium IDE playback recording is not robust enough when running IE browser server so it looks like time to open that scary Visual Studio again (my version is 2003 - and I don't know what I'm doing with it really was always in notepad with VBscript) - and start running some tests properly.

My heart says do VB.NET my brain says C#. I'm not going into development but I like to tinker with a few projects. I hear VB.NET is a bit dead - so is it wise investing time in learning something new at 45 that is going to be killed off. Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions.
