Are test cases ever needed for your test cases?

I'm doing unit testing in Jasmine, and I'm starting to think that some of my test cases are so complicated they might themselves require other test cases.

Is this an accepted practice? Should I avoid this and is there ever a reason to write test cases for your test cases?
