Could anyone suggest a way to test sms sending and receiving to/from US long and short numbers?

Ideally I'm looking for some kind of service that provides 1+ US phone numbers. It can be not free, but it should work with sending sms to both short and long US numbers. I cannot buy a real sim card, because I live in EU. I've already tried several services, added money to balances but either the sms was not received or it was impossible to send to short number. I don't need group sms or any other massive sending, just simple user tests, like send a message and receive reply from the application.
