Is there any downside to cheating with your regular coding standards when debugging/testing code?

We all know that when writing code, readability is very important to ensure the possibility for future maintenance.

But when testing functionality via unit tests or simple scripts is it also necessary to maintain the same level of code quality?

Are there any downsides to ditching the regular coding standards for such scenarios?
