Android Emulator/ Simulator AVD and Genymotion

I have recently gotten started with Android App testing. I have certain queries.

1) What is an 'Android Emulator' and an 'Android Simulator'? Are they different terms for the same thing? 2) Is AVD a simulator or Emulator? 3) Is Genymotion a simulator or emulator?
