out sourcing software capabilities - modern architectures

We see lot of solution architectures that are now outsourcing capabilities to as-a-service model vendors such as iaas, paas, saas etc..

Are their any patterns around when and at what solutions we should pivot to these or stay what should be home grown applications?

I know this might differ based on what business use case we are working for; CRM - go with salesforce etc..

But in general, are the enterprise software architectures leaning to outsource capabilities and focus on the "this" business problem?

How does this impact the quality attributes? should we be concerned of these?
