"python setup.py test" displays "running test" and stops on travis ci with python 3

Testing my package on travis CI with python 3.3 and 3.4 does not appear to work correctly. The command "python setup.py test" displays a "running test" and then stops with a return value of 0. When ran on python 2.7, the tests are executed.
