Any free frameworks or tools I can automate windows applications?

I know Sikuli, which is imaged based, but it depends on screen resolution and it is hard to get text/value from a particular Windows element. For example, I want to traverse drop down list and get their text.

I used Selenium for web testing, and it is a good tool and I can get texts from drop down list by loop, and select one of drop down list based on its text/value. It is a powerful tool and let me get the attribute or text/value for a particular element.
I am wondering if there are any tools are free, and powerful like Selenium. Thank you for your time.
