Is there any way for GitLab CI's test stage to depend on build stage?

Judging from the answer of "GitLab CI preserve environment between build stages" it seems not possible, but I think it doesn't hurt to ask and confirm --

Coming from Travis-CI, my CI flow has always been build then test. However, with GitLab CI, they are two independence jobs. Moreover, test seems to come before build.

So, is there any way for GitLab CI that I can do build then test? Because my testing is mostly testing on what I built.
