Focus an element in appium android

I am automating android app using Appium(java).
I just want to focus on a particular textView before entering any text (sendKeys) so as to ensure that elements are being inserted in correct textView.
I have the xpath for few elements and for few I have id.
So what is the correct way to focus an element before entering the text.
Any suggestion/ link / example would be helpful.
