Use own server to test in Visual Studio

I am currently working on an application using the Instagram API. However, this requires using my own server and therefore cannot be tested using the one Visual Studio creates for testing. I was hoping someone could clarify if Visual Studio permits testing on your own server rather than the one it creates.
