Why can't I detect any wireless device using wifite in kali linux

I'm trying to pentest the wireless network in my dormitory. I have a USB wireless adapter connected to my kali. As you can see, I can't detect any wifi network even I know there are many wifis here. Here is my code :

root@kali:~# iwconfig
lo        no wireless extensions.

wlan0     IEEE 802.11bgn  ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Managed  Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=20 dBm
          Retry short limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off

eth0      no wireless extensions.

root@kali:~# airmon-ng start wlan0

Found 2 processes that could cause trouble.
If airodump-ng, aireplay-ng or airtun-ng stops working after
a short period of time, you may want to run 'airmon-ng check kill'

note :
do not use airmon-ng to enable monitor mode because it stop the network-manager service
Instead, use :
ifconfig wlan0 down
iwconfig wlan0 mode monitor;
ifconfig wlan0 up;
