Android Appium Code Coverage with JaCoCo

I have been trying to find a way to produce the .ec or .exec coverage files while using Cucumber and Appium. I found this: http://ift.tt/2sfh8UG but I cannot find a method that will work in the JaCoCo library and have not found any other good leads to solve this problem. Has anyone ran into this issue and has a solution that they could share?
