Best practises to modify existing Perl code

I must perform some modifications in a set of 25000 lines of codes written in Perl. I have just read the post Perl debug Improvement and Method to understand existing Perl code. Others things than Test :: More, the Module Enbugger and the book Perl Medic, Transforming Legacy Code (by Peter Scott). I'm looking for some tips and maybe some tools.
