How do i generate thousands of random unique alpha numeric strings in Java?

I'm trying to generate thousands of random strings of alpha numeric characters and ensuring that they are unique by comparing them to an array containing the strings that have already been created. However i don't know how exactly i'm supposed to do this and am looking for some guidance.
