How would I go about setting up a test environment to compare different SCM softwares?

I am not very knowledgeable on this subject and have never used a SCM before, but after doing research on multiple different SCM's, I have selected a few that may fit my needs. How might I construct an environment to test these SCM's? I have multiple machines I can use for the testing. I have specific requirements I want to test, and these are:

1) Integration with VS (Check in and out and get files) without needing to use the command line much if at all 2) Support for source files that are created in one project and linked to another 3) Offline Support
