Adding new assertions in existing test scenario?

• A new feature is being developed.
• I want to test this feature in different scenarios.
• We have existing tests that correspond to this scenario (but they test other features).

Should I :

1. insert new assertions about the new feature is these existing scenarios ?
2. create new tests specifically about that new feature (this would imply scenario duplication)?
