Is it good practice to add extra logic just to make qa automations easier?

I recently got a request to add additional logic so my qa team could run some automation against an API. The idea is to make some logic only available in the QA environment using environment variabls. I’m opposed to add any logic in my API just for the sake of testing and I think a better solution should be considered. But I’d like to hear other opinions.
