Can I use Spectron for non-Electron web applications?

I'm asking this because I have an React + Electron application and plan on moving it to the web browser eventually. Since I am going to begin writing end-to-end tests and wish to continue support for the electron app, I don't want to have to rewrite all of the electron tests when I move from Electron to a web application.

I know Spectron is a wrapper around webdriver.io with Electron-specific functionality added in, so to me it seems like there shouldn't be any problems using it on web applications. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find anyone else trying to do the same thing so I'm not sure.
