test app.config content configuration

I'm developing an dll assembly which's using xml .config files in order to get custom configuration from.

I'd like to create some tests in order to be able to check the behaviour when a configuration is done, when it's empty...

So, I'd like to check according to xml content how a object is populated. I've no idea how to provide several examples of xml content and load them and test them.
