Good morning fellow testers and developers alike,
I have been doing some extensive research online to find out what the term "Testing Methodologies" really means and I have come across conflicting information.
Some articles use the term "testing methodologies" referring to Models of the Software Development Life Cycle such as: Agile, Waterfall etc:
https://www.guru99.com/testing-methodology.html
https://www.veracode.com/security/software-testing-methodologies-techniques
In contrast, other websites refer to the term "testing methodologies" as being testing types. For instance: Unit testing, Regression Testing, Stress Testing:
https://smartbear.com/learn/automated-testing/software-testing-methodologies/
https://www.testingexcellence.com/what-software-testing-methodology/
As can be seen, there is reason behind my source of confusion, which leads to the ultimate question:
Strictly speaking, what exactly are testing methodologies? Models of the SDLC or Testing types such as Unit Testing and Beta Testing?
