Can I use linux Perf tool to test tcp communication between two hosts?

I was assigned to a task to measure tcp performance (latency and some other meaningful stats that I could test) between two hosts. I'm a beginner for performance testing and I want to know weather I can use perf tool for this assignment. If not should I use tool like iPerf? Can anyone have experience on perform testing give me an advice? Any help will be highly appreciated. Have a nice day!
