Is Selenium the right tool to test a standalone client-server application

Supposed a software is developed based on client-server application of a local network in C++. The clients are not based on browser, the server software provides APIs for the clients and play audio as a response.

For the testing, is selenium the right tool the use (I would like to develop the test in Python)? Or Selenium is only suitable for Browser testing.
