Support for exceptions testing in the core library?

I'm aware of the non-core Test::Exception module, but I'd like avoid a non-core dependency for something as basic as exceptions testing. On the other hand, re-implementing this functionality in order to avoid the non-core dependency is even worse.

is there some other support for exceptions testing among the core modules?
