How to test a MySQL Database in terms of Space or Memory?.

I request some one to help me out to know about database testing. Am currently working on my academic project and need to test the MySQL and MongoDB databases. Can anyone help out and provide little insight on how t start testing the databases. I have planned to evaluate the throughput, response time, memory and scalability of both the databases under various scenarios. Am planning to use 1million records for the same. Can someone kindly provide some help. how to test it with Jmeter as well as Selenium.
