Golang Testing API can be used for functional testing?

Initially, we thought of implementing functional testing in JUnit for the cloud platform. Testing involves invoking remote machines, execute remote commands, calling rest URLs etc.

Later management asked me to use "Go" testing API. I feel go testing API is for unit testing not for functional testing.

Please suggest me is it worth moving to Go Testing?
