How Moq's verify method is implemented?

I am currently implementing my own custom testing framework as a learning exercise. So I wanted to know how verify method of Moq works? I wanted to know what's happening on the inside. What's the input and what it does and what it gives back as output. I need that kind of explanation. Thanks in advance.
