Can I use Docker to create a test database and run dev app against it?

I am completely new on Docker, is it fit to clone a prod (say, sql server) database, and test locally a dev application against it?

Something like linking the app to the docker database via local dev connection string, do the test, then restore the container as it was initially set up on the next application run if needed...
