How to get the api data in espresso unit testing

Suppose, I am testing a screen with over 15 (PnC) totally dependable on response received from server. So to test that screen or fragment I need to access the variables or the data received from server to put the conditions in my test file. I have been struggling to get this work done for past couple of days. Please help me out here.
