QA - Cannot input into fields with type number using Selenium 2.9 and FF 38.0.1

I know that several answers in the past on the subject recommend using legacy versions. However, I am currently in a situation where the solution is infeasible. Another person suggested disabling 'dom.forms.number'. I'm looking for an answer to either how can one disable 'dom.forms.number' permanently or how can I input numbers without reverting to past versions
