I am Confused with Positive And Negative Test Cases

I am confused with positive test cases.

Positive Test Cases take in Valid Data Negative Test Cases take in invalid Data but I have also learnt that negative does NOT show error when it takes in invalid input.

But I have seen negative test cases showing error when an invalid input is fed. Different websites have different examples. I cannot understand. Can you please confirm me on this?
