what is a "dark read"

I keep hearing this term being thrown around at my job and I can gather it's some sort of A/B test where a user can get either form of a particular value, but I'm not 100% sure.

Would like to know a more concrete definition or at least the link to one, as neither google nor stack overflow search have been helpful
